Team bonding!

This morning, Years 2 and 3 (soon to be 3 and 4!!) joined together to complete a team challenge. This was to help them be ready to be in the same class together again next year.

Using their knowledge from our recent Design Technology topic, they had to plan, design and evaluate a tower made from spaghetti and marshmallows. It had to be a stable, strong structure.

Living and Learning: Health Week

This week has been Health Week! We’ve thought about all the different  choices we can make to stay happy and healthy.

We started the week with Mindfulness Monday. We did some yoga and listened to some calming music.

Throughout the week, we’ve also completed a series of personal best challenges. We’ve skipped, jumped, ran and balanced to see if we could beat our best from before!

We also had Sports Day! A huge well done to the children for their confidence and supportive team spirit they displayed.

We ended the week with a special visit from d:side. We learned all about the different organs inside of our body and how they keep us healthy.

Help at home: ask your child what they’ve learned this week, and make a healthy choice at home this weekend!

Science: animals including humans!

This half term, in Year 1 and 2, we are biologists with Miss Kay on Fridays. This means we study living things.

Our current learning is all about ‘Animals including humans’. We’ve started this by thinking about what babies need to grow, and how we change through the life-cycle (from being a baby, to a toddler, to a child, teenager, adult and so on…).

This week, we’ve investigated the big question: do older children have bigger heads? We’ve measured the head size of children in each year group. This linked nicely to our Living and Learning statement this week by asking for permission to measure the head size of our peers.

A reception child might have a smaller head because they are younger.

A child in Year 6 will have a bigger head because they are tall.

We found out that older children definitely have bigger heads!

We took the opportunity to measure Mrs Valentine’s head. It was the same size as our friend in Year 6! We questioned does Mrs Valentine have the head size of a child, or does our Year 6 pupil have the head size of an adult?

Help at home: below are our key words for this topic – ask your child if they can tell you what they mean. Some will be covered in more detail as we progress through this topic.

Living and Learning: relationships

In Living and Learning recently, we’ve been thinking about happy and healthy relationships.

This week, we’ve been thinking about how we show care each day. We thought about all the different ways we can care for someone: helping a friend with their work, listening to your teacher, doing some jobs at home, give someone a hug if they want one, or asking someone how their day is to put a smile on their face.

We created some freeze frames to show different ways of caring for others.

Help at home: talk about how you can show care to someone over the weekend.

Spellings 14.06.23

This week, our spelling words will be nouns with the -es -s or -ies suffix (at the end of the word).

books, pencils, foxes, glasses, churches, babies, teddies, flies

We know that when a singular noun (one thing) ends in y, e.g. teddy, we remove the y and add -ies to make it a plural noun (a group of things) e.g. teddies.

Please practice these words ready for our check on 22nd June.

Spellings 09.06.23

This week, our spellings words are past tense verbs (a doing or a being word) that follow our -ed suffix. This is the ending of a word.

jumped, hopped, skipped, looked, picked, closed, liked, loved

Due to Year 2 having Forest Schools on a Friday, we will be doing our spellings check on Thursdays for this half term. We will have 8 spellings each week to focus on.
