Thank you to everyone who entered our Summer competition – there were some fantastic re-creations of our school logo. It was very difficult for the school staff to decide on the overall finalists. After much discussion, I’m pleased to announce the following winners:

Last week, the children voted for the charity we will be supporting as a school this year. The overall decision was made by the Junior Leadership Team. This year we will be supporting Martin House.
We had so many wonderful entries for our smiley face competition this year. Thank you to everyone who sent photos- they were all very creative and entertaining to look at.

It was lovely to see so many happy faces at the school disco on Friday. A huge thank you to the PTA who organised another great event. We raised £729.17!
A lot of our electricity in school is generated by solar panels on the school roof. Today, Mr Smith visited our school to check our solar panels and to talk to us in assembly. He told us how the panels generate electricity and the importance of saving electricity by turning off lights and other appliances when not in use. He explained that this would save the school some money!
He demonstrated how heat and natural sunlight can be measured and how this is helpful in his work.
We are going to try our best to save more electricity!
We’ve had a wonderful final day of term and our tummies are full!

Today, we invited Jenny from Wetherby and District Foodbank to lead our collective worship. She spoke to the children about what the foodbank can provide and how people can ask for help. Jenny explained that the foodbank can also provide financial support in different ways such as support with transport and debt management. We thought it was a great example of compassion which is our Christian value this half term.

Thank you to the children who took part in the remembrance parade in Wetherby this weekend. It was lovely to see so many St James’ faces in the crowds too. Today, we’ll be having a one minute silence to remember those who have fought in conflict both past and present.
Today, some of our Year 5 and 6 pupils took part in a Service of Thanksgiving marking 200 years since The Great Sale of Wetherby. It was a very proud moment listening to the children confidently read a poem about what Wetherby means to them. A big thank you to the children and their families taking time on their Sunday to be part of this commemorative service at St James’ Church.
Thursday was World Mental Health Day. We invited MindMate Support Team into school to deliver workshops to the children about self-esteem and how to get help if they’re feeling sad or have low mood. On Friday, the same team delivered a workshop to parents about supporting children with self-esteem and the feedback was positive.
