For practising the list of spellings, we’d like you to use rainbow words. You might do each letter in a different colour or just each word in a different colour. If you’re feeling extravagant, have a go at this:

Year 1

• is
• love
• me
• my
• no

Year 2
• school
• she
• so
• some
• their
• there
• they
• to
• today
• the

This week’s spelling list is the next group of words from the common exception words list. Write them in your neatest handwriting. Remember that letters sit on the line. Start each letter with a leading line and, if you’re feeling confident, try to join your letters, too.

Year 1

• has
• he
• here
• his
• house

Year 2
• of
• once
• one
• our
• pull
• push
• put
• said
• saw
• says

• friend

• go

Year 2

• has
• he
• here
• his
• house

During Autumn Term 1, we worked  our way through lots of  the ‘common exception words’ (words that do not follow the usual spelling rules). This half term we will repeat those spellings to give the children the oppourtunity to consolidate their learning.

Encourage children to write their spellings out a few times over the week, ready to be tested at school on a Friday.

Year 1

• are
• ask
• be
• by
• come

Year 2

• are
• ask
• be
• by
• come
• do
• for
• friend
• full
• go
