Across the school year, you can join in lots of events at St James’ CE Primary. Check out our school calendar so you know what’s coming up. Here are a few of the opportunities to join in:
Watch Us While We Work sessions are a chance to come into your child’s classroom to see some Maths and Reading being taught in school so that you can support your child at home. Topic Review sessions are similar – a chance to come into class for you to celebrate your child’s learning in other subjects. Our Ready to Read event for Year 2 parents is a highlight, marking the end of Key Stage 1 – it’s a special assembly to celebrate your child’s achievements, particularly in reading. Make sure you come along to our Coffee Mornings, too.
In Reception, we’ve lots of Stay and Learn sessions across the year. These are a chance to find out more about your child’s journey through Reception. You can observe some teaching and learning, and pick up some tips to support your child at home. There are sessions about Phonics, Number, Writing and more. There are also Learning Journey Drop-in sessions. Every child in Reception has a Learning Journey book that celebrates their learning – this might be with photos, our observations, and your updates from home. The sessions are for you to come in and share with your child their Learning Journey so far.
Each year, we have two themed weeks, when children learn more about their community, money, staying safe and being healthy. The themed weeks are packed with activities, including lots of visitors. We’re always keen to welcome parents and carers, as well as other visitors, who can talk to children in these themed weeks.
Look out for the Friends of St James’ events, too!
