Living and Learning: I understand some drugs can be harmful

Posted on Thursday 27 May 2021 by Miss Beatson

In Living and Learning, we’ve been exploring the topic of drugs. We know that there are different types of drugs including illegal and legal drugs. As a class, we discussed the risks of drugs and how they can affect the body in different ways.

We read different scenarios and discussed what was causing the risk and rated the situation a high, medium or low risk. We thought about the characters who may need support and how they could get help.

Posted on Friday 14 May 2021 by Mrs Latham

We have launched a whole school skipping project with Skipping School. Each class has their own class set of ropes and we also have long ropes for every class too. The children are so enthusiastic about it already. There are some tutorial videos below so you can work on your skills at home too!

As part of the government PE and Sport Premium for primary schools, there is a condition requiring schools to publish how many pupils in Year 6 are meeting the National Curriculum requirements. As school swimming lessons took place earlier in KS2, please could you complete this survey to provide up to date information for your child.
Thank you

Living and Learning: I know the importance of personal hygiene, including handwashing.

Posted on Friday 07 May 2021 by Miss Beatson

In Living and Learning, we discussed the importance of keeping clean and washing our hands. We did a little experiment with paint and talc to show how easily germs can spread if we don’t wash our hands!

We watched a video which showed us the ‘hotspots’ where germs are very good at hiding on our hands. We are going to make sure we pay attention to these areas every time we wash our hands.

We all know the importance of handwashing to protect ourselves and others. For a reminder, watch this experiment: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kGQEuuv9R6E

Thoughts for Thursday

Posted on Friday 07 May 2021 by Miss Beatson

Every Thursday, we visit our whole school reflection area to discuss our ‘Thoughts for Thursday’.

Each week, there’s a big question for us to think about, reflect on and discuss. This week, our big question is ‘Can kindness change the world?’

Here are some of our responses:

“Kindness can change the world because there would be peace and no more fighting or war. On the other hand, nobody would be themselves and it would be strange.” Y6

“Kindness can change the world because there would be peace and harmony. But, it would be hard to stay kind at someone who is being rude to you.” Y6

“Kindness can change the world by stopping wars, fighting and conflict.” Y5

Captain Tom 100 Challenge

Posted on Friday 30 April 2021 by Miss Beatson

Today, the JLT voted for the school charity we will be supporting this year- RSPCA.

As our first fundraising event, we’ll be taking part in the Captain Tom 100 Challenge. Each class will be doing something 100 times on Tuesday 04 May. All we ask is that each child brings in 100 pence (it can be a £1 coin!) and all the money raised will be donated to the RSPCA. There’ll be a bucket at the gate for you to leave your donation.
Here are the details of what each class is doing:
Foundation- 100 star jumps
Y1/2- 100 skips
Y3/4- writing 100 adjectives
Y5/6- planting 100 seeds
Thank you for your support- we will let you know how much money we raise!

Well done to all those children who took part and for all the wonderful singing that was heard around school.

Let’s rock for Red Nose Day!

Posted on Monday 15 March 2021 by Mr Roundtree

Hello to all of you Times Tables Rock Stars,

This Friday is Red Nose Day and the people at TTRS have come up with a great challenge to raise some extra money for Comic Relief.

Prices for a new nose start at 50,000 coins so we’d best get saving.

We’ve got until Friday –  Red Nose Day. Let’s do our bit to help the nation reach that £5,000 target.

TTRS Tournament winners (wb 08 March)

Posted on Monday 15 March 2021 by Mr Roundtree

Our first week back at school has seen a very close race for the title!

All week, the lead has changed hands but, in the end, there can only be one winner!

The TTRS tournament winner this week is… (DRUM ROLL)…

It’s Year 5! That’s the second win in a row!  Year 3,4 were a very close second.

Will Year 5 get a third win in a row?  Will Year 3,4 go one further to take the victory? Or perhaps, Year 6 will come in and steal the show?

All the best, TTRS.
