Arts and R.E!

Our new topic is linked to spirituality and we have already thought about how this can be expressed in different ways. We know that spiritually does not have to be religious but we looked at different pictures and thought about how Christians use visual arts to express spirituality.

Some of the pictures depicted well known biblical scenes such as Jesus on the cross. Others were more abstract.

The children had some brilliant suggestions about what the pictures represented and thought of their own questions that they would like to ask about the artwork.

Jubilee Celebrations!

We had a fantastic day celebrating the Platinum  Jubilee in years 3 and 4.  We enjoyed doing crafts such as flag making and even decorated a card to send to the Queen!

At lunchtime, we had a special picnic and sang the national anthem. Each class performed a dance to represent every decade of the queens reign!

We hope all the children have a fantastic half term and enjoy the

celebrations!

Exciting Experiments!

For this week’s science lesson, we conducted an experiment. We wanted to find out if changing the colour of water would make our carnations change colour, as the water moves through the stem.

We predicted what might happen first. Lots of children thought that the carnation would change to match the colour of the food colouring that was used.

In order to ensure this was a fair test, we used the same amount of water and food colouring. We will keep the carnations in the same conditions and will observe them over the same length of time.

Our eggcellent start to the week!

Years 3 and 4 enjoyed an eventful start to the week.

Our Monday morning involved a visit from a mobile farm! We saw and learnt about lots of different animals and even got to stroke them. Although, I think Meg the dog was the most popular!

In the afternoon we enjoyed seeing all the amazing entries from our egg decoration competition.  The teachers had a very difficult job choosing the winners and runners up for each class! There were some really creative designs so thank you to everyone who got involved.

Year 4 have had a very busy week!

We have had a fantastic week of learning in Year 4!

In writing we learnt about the features of good persuasive writing.  We then wrote some brilliant pieces of persuasive writing about why people should change their actions to prevent animal species from becoming extinct.

As our living and learning has been based on personal hygiene, we thought about the importance of oral hygiene and considered everyday actions and the impact that these can have on our teeth.
