Congratulations to our Year 2 Junior Leadership Team (JLT) candidates!

I am incredibly proud of how hard the students worked on creating and delivering speeches to convince their classmates to elect them. Every single child did an amazing job reflecting on the qualities of a great leader and pouring those ideas into their presentations. We are so lucky to have a class full of such enthusiastic, willing future leaders. Congratulations to George H. and Darcey, our newly elected Year 2 JLT members!

Year 2 Find Their Roar!

Year 2 have officially finished reading our wonderful class book, How to Be a Lion by Ed Vere, a beautiful story about being true to yourself.
To bring the book to life, the children took part in hot seating, bravely stepping into character as Leonard the lion and Marianne the duck. After practising how to frame meaningful questions, they used this experience to write some truly amazing questions to ask the characters.

Lessons from the Deep Dark Wood: Our masterclass with Julia Donaldson!

We had a truly monstrous treat this week. Our students logged into a special live webinar with author Julia Donaldson and illustrator Axel Scheffler. We were treated to a first-ever reading of their highly anticipated new book, Gruffalo Granny, followed by a fascinating live masterclass where Axel sketched right before our eyes. The children loved seeing how a story comes to life from the page to the canvas. We love the new story.

Welcome to Year 2!

What a wonderful first week we have had in Year 2 here at St James’ CE Primary.

It has been such a pleasure to meet all of the children and begin getting to know their wonderful personalities. The children have settled in brilliantly. It’s been lovely to see them learn their new routines, making new friends and becoming familiar with their new classroom.

We have loved starting our new topic, The Great Fire of London. This week, we learned about timelines and chronological order, practising how to sequence our morning routine correctly.

I’m really looking forward to all the learning we have ahead in Year 2.
