This week, our Living and Learning has been about democracy- this included voting for our new Junior Leadership Team (previously named School Council). Well done to all the children who delivered speeches to their classes. Congratulations to all the children who were elected:
Year 1: Lily and Willow
Year 2: Ralph and Kamile
Year 3: Caleb and Jack
Year 4: Ellie and Sianna
Year 5: Evie and Scarlet
Year 6: Cohen and Bella
What a great first week back it’s been! Everybody has enjoyed being back with their friends and all have been engaged in learning. It was fab to get outdoors and practise our tennis skills:
We’ve been choosing new books from the library with a bit of a difference! Lots of children decided to choose books which were wrapped up with just the first line of the book on show.
In Living and Learning, we read some quotes from the book ‘The boy, the mole, the fox’ by Charlie Mackesy. We reflected on our time during lockdown #3 and focused on the quote from the book, ‘After the storm….’ to look forward to things to come. Here are some of our hopes in a drawing similar to the drawings in the book:
Well done for getting through the half term- we think you’ve all been amazing! It has been great to see lots of you on Zoom every day sharing your favourite learning or discussing a challenging question or even just chatting about what you’ve baked that day. You’ve all been resilient, resourceful and taken responsibility for your learning at home. You should be very proud of yourselves! Here are some highlights of the half term both in school and at home……..
This week, I’ve been having a look at Times Tables Rock Stars to see who has been practising their times tables at home. Well done to those who have been going on regularly (even if it’s for a few minutes) to practise and recall multiplication facts.
At the moment, I can see that Year 6 children have been going on more than the Year 5 children. Let’s see if the Year 5s can change this by the end of the week! If you’ve forgotten your password please ask your parents to email me and I will send you it.
Click here to practise right now!
Well done on completing another week of home learning.
The number of children attending our daily Zoom lessons has increased which is fantastic to see! Once again, it has been great to see everyone’s hard work at home and in school. A highlight this week has been the report writing. Thank you to Mr Owen, who has clearly inspired lots of you to create your own imaginary planet and write a report all about it. Here are a few examples of reports that have been written this week:
During the week, some of the Year 6 pupils were asking for some help with the maths learning. Zoom was a great opportunity to share this and I was able to give some additional support to those who needed it. This is another great reason to join the daily sessions as I’m available to give some top tips and go over anything that children are finding challenging.
I look forward to seeing what you all get up to next week!
Well done to all the children who have been doing their home learning this week. It’s been lovely to see some of you on Zoom and to see and hear about the learning you’ve enjoyed. I particularly enjoyed seeing some of the drawings and models of the solar system as part of the science learning. It’s also been great to hear other ways you’ve been spending your days such as going on walks, reading a book, tie dyeing t-shirts and playing football in the garden. I look forward to seeing some more home learning next week. Remember, if you’re struggling with any of the home learning and you need some support, please ask an adult to email me and I will get in touch to help or you can ask me on Zoom. Happy home learning!

Happy New Year. We hope you’ve had a fantastic holiday and are looking forward to continuing our learning journey this year. Sorry that you can’t be in school this week but we’ve got plenty of activities to keep you busy.
Maths
In school this week, we’re learning how to calculate fractions and mixed numbers. Children should use these resources:
You don’t have to print the worksheets. Your child can write or draw their answers on paper. Your child’s learning will be most effective if you sit with them to pause the clip and check / praise / support your child as the clip moves on.
Don’t forget to practise times tables on Times Table Rock Stars, too. Even rock legends need to keep their fingers and brains sharp. Email your class teacher if you need your child’s login and password details.
(Suggested time: 30 minutes of Maths and 15 minutes of Rock Stars daily)
Reading fluency
This is the fluency text on the book Sky Song that we’ll read in class this week. In school, we generally follow this sequence:
(Suggested time: 15 minutes daily)
Reading comprehension
(Suggested time: 30 minutes daily)
Writing
Follow these lessons on journalistic writing from Oak National Academy. There’s a whole series of lessons, but start at Lesson 1 and work through, doing one (or maybe even two) each day. (If you’re self-isolating in your second week, stick with the series of lessons you’ve already started and aim to complete the full series.)
(Suggested time: 30-40 minutes for each)
Spelling
This week’s spellings are on our spelling page. Complete one task each day:
(Suggested time: 15-20 minutes daily)
Topic
Our topic this half-term is about climate change. This geography unit from Oak Academy is called Water, Weather and Climate.
Follow these. There are six lessons in total, but start at the first lesson and work through, doing two or three in the week.
(Suggested time: 30-40 minutes)
Science
Our focus this half-term is Space.
These six lessons from Oak National Academy link closely to what we’ve been doing in class. Start at Lesson 1 and work through, doing two or three in the week.
If Science really motivates your child, you could also use look at these lessons all about practical Science.
(Suggested time: 30-45 minutes)
PE
Don’t forget to do some daily exercise!
Do two or three of these Five Minute Moves from Joe Wicks each day – spread them across the day as if they were playtimes, maybe!
Try working through this series of 25 lessons from the Association for Physical Education – do two or three in the week.
(Suggested time: 5 minutes daily, plus 30 minutes for the longer PE lessons)
We’ve had a very busy, festive week in school: pantomime (virtual), Christmas lunch, parties, Christingle and crafts. Well done to everybody for working so hard this term- have a wonderful Christmas!
