Have a lovely holiday!

We had a brilliant last day of the spring term. This consisted of Easter baking and Easter bonnet making!

We even went into collective worship to show the rest of the school our bonnets!
We hope all the wonderful children and their families have a lovely break.

Trying Vegetables!

This week, we have been enjoying reading ‘Oliver’s Vegetables’ by Vivian French.

We have been thinking about the vegetables in the book; painting them using the appropriate colours.

We also had a taste of some of the vegetables and thought of some words to describe what they tasted like.

“The carrot is crunchy.” Eliott

“Peas taste soft.” Oria

“The carrot tastes hard.” Wyatt

There are other books in the Oliver series about healthy eating. Why not check them out?

Help at home: Can your child remember the story? Have a go at drawing some of the vegetables you have at home.

Heavier Or Lighter?

This week, we have been thinking about weight.

We have been comparing objects in our classroom and using the words ‘heavier’ and ‘lighter’ to describe them.

Sometimes, we were tricked! Some of us thought that the biggest object might be the heaviest. We now know, that’s not always the case!

Help at home: Can you compare some objects that you have? Which feels heavier and lighter when you feel them?

Forest Schools Fun

This week, year 5/6 had more fun in our woodlands area with the forest schools team .

We used the resources to made rope swings, a mud kitchen and even a wishing well!

It was fantastic hearing the children articulate what they had enjoyed about the session so well.

We will be focusing on more construction and developing the mud kitchen area in the weeks to come.

Help at home: Ask your child what they enjoyed about forest schools. Can they get any inspiration from the nature around you?

Mad About Materials!

We have started our new Science topic. We will be learning all all about different materials and their properties.
We started by looking at four materials, glass, plastic, wood and metal. We took objects from the classroom and sorted them into groups by identifying which material they were made from.
We thought about the purpose of objects and why they are made from certain materials. Some objects are made from more than one material. The children correctly said that we don’t have much glass in our classroom as it’s fragile and can be very sharp if it breaks!
Help at home: See if your child can identify what material some of their objects at home are. Can they say why it’s made from this material?

How can we look after our world?

This half term, we are thinking all about The Creation Story. We have been learning what happened on each of the seven days that the world was created by God.

This week, we thought about how it feels when people do not respect things we have made. This led us to consider how people do not always look after the world God created. We looked at pictures of pollution and thought about rules God might have for his world.

We then made some fabulous posters about how we should look after the world.

The Human Body

This half term, we have started our science learning. We are going to be finding out more about these parts of the human body .

For our first lesson we made sure we were certain what a human is. We know that we are animals just like our pets. Unlike our pets, we are humans!

We played Simon Says to hep us find parts of our body and then looked closely at out feet. After comparing our feet to our partners, we thought about if the oldest children have the longest feet.

To hep us think about this, we took a drawing of our foot and put them in order of our ages.

Can we construct a moving go- kart?

This term, in  design technology, we have designed and constructed car models.

We researched our model first and thought about what our go- kart would need to be successful. We then designed the model. This week, we created a ‘prototype’ using Tech- card.

The children explored how to get their models move by using an electric circuit.

Help at home: Ask your child about our ‘go-karts’ project. What have they enjoyed the most?
Can they explain why it is important to create a prototype?
