Topic review

Thank you to the adults who were able to attend our topic review on Friday. It was an opportunity to see the classes recapping on knowledge they’ve learned in our recent history and art topics. Here are some of the comments made by those who visited:

“What a lovely classroom and teacher. The children all seemed so happy and engaged which was so lovely to see.”

“The children listened well and it was interesting to watch.”

“I enjoyed watching all the children working in teams and sharing their knowledge. It gave a good insight into what happens in class.”

The next opportunity to see learning in action will be on Thursday 26 January at 9am.

Christmas events

It’s a busy time of year with so many things happening. Here is a reminder of the Christmas events taking place over the next two weeks:

Wednesday 7th December, 2pm: Christingle Service at St James’ Church

Thursday 8th December, 2.15pm: Early Years and KS1 Christmas play

Friday 9th December, 9.30am: Early Years and KS1 Christmas play

Tuesday 13th December: Christmas dinner

Wednesday 14th December: Early Years and KS1 parties (non-uniform)

Thursday 15th December: Ks2 parties (non-uniform)

During our productions, we will be raising money for our new school charity voted for by the Junior Leadership Team. This year we will be supporting Cancer Research UK. 

 

Community week

This week, we’ve had lots of visitors into school because it’s been our community themed week. The week got off to a great start when the Mayor of Wetherby visited us and spoke to us about his responsibilities within the local community and how he became Mayor through a democratic vote.

Throughout the rest of the week, we had our local community police officer visit us to talk to us about staying safe in our community; Wetherby in Bloom came into school to talk to us about how they support our local community and our younger children potted some plants with the help of some of their volunteers; Boston Spa, Wetherby and Villages Community Group came into talk to us about how we can help the environment; and Wise Charity spoke to the children about supporting the elderly within the local community with the help of their mascot owl!

Children in Years 4- 6 Zoomed some children at Moortown Primary School to compare our school communities and found out some similarities and differences. A group of children also had the opportunity to speak on the local radio station, Tempo FM. It’s been a busy week!

Harvest Festival

I felt so happy and proud yesterday during our Harvest Festival at church. The children read some lovely poems and prayers aloud and sang with enthusiasm. It was wonderful to see the church full of parents and carers to celebrate with us, too. Thank you to everybody who donated food which will go to St George’s Crypt in Leeds to help the homeless and vulnerable.

 

Watch us while we work

Thank you to all the parents and grandparents who joined us this morning to watch us while we work. It was an opportunity to watch some learning in  maths and reading and hopefully pick up a few strategies that can be used at home.  Here are a few feedback comments from parents this morning:

“The children sat, listened and interacted well. It was lovely to see what they are like in class.”

“Great to see what happens in class. Really enjoyed it.”

“It was nice to see the classroom and teaching strategies.”

“Lovely being in class. Teacher had them engaged at all times. Good to see English and maths.”

“Great to see different ways we can help at home……different ways to practise times tables and retrieval in reading.”

Summer smile competition

Before the Summer holiday, we asked you to look out for smiles in your surroundings  or even create a smile. Thank you to everyone who sent in photographs of their smiles. Today, we looked at the photos in collective worship and the pictures certainly made everyone smile and laugh. The prize for the overall winners went to Cameron in Year 1 and Emily in Year 2 for their variety of smiling examples- congratulations!

A great start!

I would just like to say how impressed I’ve been with all the children starting back at school. Everyone is looking very smart in the school uniform and PE uniform- thank you for following our policy on this.

The children have been so enthusiastic about meeting their new teachers, seeing their friends again and enjoying their new learning. Every Friday, we have an achieve and believe collective worship where we hand out certificates. On Friday, the children were fantastic at telling me about their achievements just in the first four days of being back at school!

This week, we welcome the remainder of our Reception children; they’ve all settled in so well. It’s wonderful to walk around school and see happy and healthy children.

 

Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat

Tonight, Key Stage 2 performed Joseph and the Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat- it really was amazing! The children sang their hearts out and made everybody really proud. Thank you to all the staff who put together a fantastic show and a special shout out to Mrs Valentine’s Mum who spent many hours creating the iconic dreamcoat.

Well done to all the children- it was a huge success!
