Home learning help
The teachers at school have been talking to some families who are continuing to learn from home this week. There was a common topic of conversation : this is all dragging on and becoming quite tricky at times!
It has been a long time since we have all been back at school with our classes and we understand that home learning is challenging. Here are a few links that might help if you are wanting more activities to engage your child.
This is great for working on all number facts and you can try to improve your own score. We use this in school on iPads but can also be played on laptops : https://www.topmarks.co.uk/maths-games/hit-the-button
Passwords for Numbots or Times Table Rockstars are the same : https://play.numbots.com/#/intro or https://ttrockstars.com/ Email your teacher if you have lost it.

For your reading task, watch this video of Mrs Welsby. It has the answers to yesterday’s RIC and explains today’s task. You are going to use your inference skills to write your own blub for ‘The Small Shoemaker’. You will leave your own clues about what happens instead of telling the reader like you would in a summary.

Head to Oak National Academy to learn more Spanish. In this lesson, you will recap the alphabet and numbers from last week, then you are going to learn how to greet people and introduce yourselves in Spanish! You will learn how to say your name and age in Spanish. For this lesson, you just need your brain and your voice! But you might want a pen and paper handy in case you want to write anything down.

Today’s learning……..
Year 5 and 6 maths
How did you get on with the nrich challenge yesterday? Caitlin managed to get up to 98!
Complete this challenge called ‘A square of numbers’ where you will need to work systematically.
If you want to challenge yourself, why not find different solutions and justify that you haven’t missed any out. This is where working systemically is important. Then, you could make up your own problem which uses different operations around a square in a different order.
It would be great if you could email me (nataliebeatson@spherefederation.org) your own challenges and some of the children in school could have a go at solving them!
Reading: retrieval
Watch and complete this video lesson.
You’ll need these questions for your main task. And, this link to the whole First News paper for the challenge.
Design Technology: mechanical systems
Follow this BBC Bitesize lesson all about mechanical systems and you could even have a go at designing and making your own moving toy! If you do, please take a photo and email me your picture. We will have a go at making some in school too- I will post some of our creations on the class news page.
