Day 4: Phonics – reading focus

1. Say the ‘phase 3’ phonemes before the 2 minute timer ends!
Challenge: Can you do it before the 1 minute timer?
Parents: Click ‘PhonicsPlay’ > Resources > Flashcards Time Challenge > Start > Phase 2&3
2. Read the words below.
Parents: you could write them in your child’s home learning book if your child cannot read them on your device.
Parents: If these are too challenging perhaps try reading these words instead.
3. Read the ‘sh’ sentences.
Parents: Click ‘PhonicsPlay’ > Resources > Phase 3 > Sentences > Start > Select ‘week 4 -> sh’
Challenge: Choose another phoneme and read those sentences.
Day 4: Literacy
Book of the week: The smartest giant in town
Draw a character in the story and write a speech bubble.
For example, you might draw the goat in the boat and write “You are such a good giant!”.
Day 4: Maths – subtraction
1. Count backwards from 20 using the song.
Oh no! The song seems to have forgotten the number 0! We talk lots about the number 0 being nothing but still being a number. Try to add the number 0 when singing the song.
2. Solve the number problems.
Parents: Your child could use objects at home to help when counting.
Challenge: Can you come up with your own addition or subtraction number problems?

- Practise your letter formation in your home learning book. You can use the letter formation sheet given out at parents’ evening.
- Write the following words
Parents: Please read the words to your child. They can then write them their home learning book.
Parents: If these are too challenging perhaps try writing (or sound talking) these words instead.
- Can you write a sentence including one of the above words?
Challenge: Can you use all the words and turn it into a silly story!

Hello Foundation! We hope you all had a fabulous Easter at home with your family.
Teddy Diary
Hello Foundation,
My name is Maddie and I belong to Miss Marsden.
I am very cuddly and friendly teddy bear. I love going on adventures and helping Miss Marsden around the house. We have been keeping each other occupied over the Easter holidays. Here are a few pictures of what I’ve been up to.
I love to help Miss Marsden cook. I used the wooden spoon to stir the vegetables for the stew. It was delicious!
Miss Marsden and I did some mindfulness colouring. This activity helped us relax our minds. It also was improving our fine motor skills!
Here I am sat in Miss Marsden’s window. Lots of children spotted me when they were doing a bear hunt on their daily exercise. I saw lots of smiles and made sure I gave all the children a wave.
It has been lovely and sunny the past two weeks.
Miss Marsden and I have had lots of fun in the garden. Here I am helping Miss Marsden plant some flowers. Every night, Miss Marsden waters the flowers. They need lots of water and sunshine to help them grow!
Each day, I have been helping Miss Marsden put the washing out. Here I am sat inside the wash basket haha!
We’ve had lots of sunshine over the Easter holidays! Before I sat outside, I remembered to put on my sun cream. Do you like my sunglasses?
We used some of our chocolate Easter eggs to make Rice Krispie buns. First, we melted the chocolate. Then, we mixed the Rice Krispies so they were covered in chocolate. Finally, we decorated them with some ice-cream sweets. Of course, we had to try one!
Your Turn!
Choose a teddy to create your own diary. Simply draw, write and take photographs about the adventures you’ve had and add them to your diary. This can be done on a daily basis or every other day.
Please don’t forget to send us photographs of your diary so we can see what you’ve been up to with your teddy.

Five Star Sports LIVE sessions
Five Star Sports regularly come into school to deliver fabulous sporty sessions. They are running some LIVE sessions on Facebook for you to join in with. There is a Monday session for younger children and Saturday morning football sessions. Join in and keep active with them.
Brain Breaks!
We have used imoves at school during PE sessions and in the classroom. There are some great resources to use and they are now free to use at home. I particularly like the Active Blasts when I need a break from my laptop! I enjoy getting up on my feet and following the routines. I have also liked using the Mindfulness resources especially during these uncertain times. These videos relax my body and block any negative thoughts entering my mind. Take a look at their website and try some of the videos at home – I am sure some parents will have a go too!

Phonics
Words to Read: Tricky words
(All current tricky words can be found in your word passports)
What about a tricky word hunt?
Write them on pieces of paper and get an adult to hide them around the house for you to find – no peeking!
Words to Write: bank, cost, sight, near
Phonics Activity: Write the caption (Adult to read aloud);
It is fun to camp in a tent.
Children may use the phoneme frame on page 18 in your pack.
Top Tip!
Before your child puts pen to paper encourage your child to say the sentence and count the words in the sentence – this is a good chance to talk about where the finger spaces would go. Once they have done this, they are ready to write! Encourage your child to then check their writing.

Write a book review about your favourite story (use the sheet on page 19 in your pack)
Add a sentence at the bottom, about why other people should read your favourite book too!

Use a colouring pencil or felt tip to continue the repeating pattern.
