Week Commencing 20 April 2020: F1 Home Learning ‘Oh Dear!’

Posted on Monday 20 April 2020 by Mrs Allen-Kelly

Welcome back to home learning! We hope you had a lovely Easter together.

Over the next few weeks, we will be encouraging F1 to focus on a story for their home learning .

This week, we will be thinking about the story Oh dear by Rod Campbell. He also wrote the story Dear Zoo, maybe you would like to listen to that too! You might have this story at home but if not we have posted a link to it on Youtube.

Oh dear

Dear Zoo

Activities

Read or listen to the story with your child – talk about the story with your child. Discuss all of the animals that Buster visits on the farm.  Talk about the young of these animals and their names eg. sheep – lamb, a horse- foal. Listen to the story again encouraging your child to join in with the repeated phrase “No eggs here, Oh dear” How many eggs can they see in the nest at the end of the story? How many animals are in the story?

Can you draw a chick?- Perhaps draw the basic outline of 2 circles then ask your child to add a beak, eyes, legs, wings, feathers.

Small world play – If you have farm animals at a home, ask your child to set up their own farm. Use paper for fields and an old cereal box as a farm house.

Sing – Old MacDonald and Baa baa black sheep are favourites in Nursery. Why not learn Chick chick chicken from the link below.

Chick, chick chicken

Eggs – We were planning to look at eggs in various forms at Nursery. Maybe you could do this at home? Peeling a boiled egg is a finger strengthening activity that young children need in order to develop the muscles needed to write. Let them help to make an egg sandwich.

Let us know how you get on, by replying to the email address: stjameseyfs@spherefederation.org.

We would love to hear about what you have been doing. Also we are happy to answer any of your questions too.

Have fun!

W/C 20 April 2020: Teddy Diary

Posted on Monday 20 April 2020 by Mrs Wood

Hello Foundation! We hope you all had a fabulous Easter at home with your family.

Teddy Diary
Hello Foundation,
My name is Maddie and I belong to Miss Marsden.

I am very cuddly and friendly teddy bear. I love going on adventures and helping Miss Marsden around the house. We have been keeping each other occupied over the Easter holidays.  Here are a few pictures of what I’ve been up to.

I love to help Miss Marsden cook. I used the wooden spoon to stir the vegetables for the stew. It was delicious!

Miss Marsden and I did some mindfulness colouring. This activity helped us relax our minds. It also was improving our fine motor skills!

Here I am sat in Miss Marsden’s window. Lots of children spotted me when they were doing a bear hunt on their daily exercise. I saw lots of smiles and made sure I gave all the children a wave.

It has been lovely and sunny the past two weeks.
Miss Marsden and I have had lots of fun in the garden. Here I am helping Miss Marsden plant some flowers. Every night, Miss Marsden waters the flowers. They need lots of water and sunshine to help them grow!

Each day, I have been helping Miss Marsden put the washing out. Here I am sat inside the wash basket haha!

We’ve had lots of sunshine over the Easter holidays! Before I sat outside, I remembered to put on my sun cream. Do you like my sunglasses?

We used some of our chocolate Easter eggs to make Rice Krispie buns.  First, we melted the chocolate. Then, we mixed the Rice Krispies so they were covered in chocolate. Finally, we decorated them with some ice-cream sweets. Of course, we had to try one!

Your Turn!
Choose a teddy to create your own diary. Simply draw, write and take photographs about the adventures you’ve had and add them to your diary. This can be done on a daily basis or every other day.
Please don’t forget to send us photographs of your diary so we can see what you’ve been up to with your teddy.
Miss Marsden will post more photographs on the website of her diary.

Learning videos….

Posted on Friday 17 April 2020 by Mrs Allen-Kelly

We hope you’ve all had a fantastic Easter half term. Thank you to those parents who continued to send us lovely photos of activities over the past two weeks.

From Monday, we’ll continue to post daily learning activities for F2 and a weekly activity menu for F1 based on a popular story.

In addition to this, the class teachers will be creating some lesson-style videos and providing a link to these.  On Mondays at 10 am we’ll post a link to a phonics ‘lesson’, which will include two new tricky words to learn. On Wednesdays at 10 am we’ll post a maths ‘lesson’ which will be based on the next focus number. As we finished on the number 13 before the school closure, this will be the number we start with next Wednesday. We’ll also be posting some ‘story time’ videos on Fridays at 9am, keep an eye out for those too!

Good luck with the return to home learning. Stay Safe and don’t forget to email us with any questions or comments:

Easter Holiday Ideas….

Posted on Monday 06 April 2020 by Mrs Allen-Kelly

Happy Easter! We know that it’s the Easter break, but in these unprecedented times we thought that we’d continue to post some ideas of activities that you can do at home, if you choose to do so. Some of these are Easter related and others are ideas that you can continue after the Easter break.

This will be the only post for the two week Easter holidays. During this time, you can still email your child’s class teacher, although they may not respond as quickly as they have been doing.

The most important message this Easter is to have fun as a family. Read together, play outside, bake, garden, watch a movie, sing and dance. Make the most of this time together.

Easter Holiday ideas

Here are some links to a cbeebies programme called “Let’s celebrate” it show children celebrating Easter along with a child friendly reference to the Eater Story.

https://youtu.be/-qVW9IjhIlU – preparing for Easter

https://youtu.be/StlJgYF-Ki8 – celebrating Easter.

https://youtu.be/jzzr9ogygwA – The Easter Story

Watch the Cbeebies Easter programmes -Talk about what you watch with your child. Have you done any of the things that Toby has done to prepare for Easter? Have you seen any baby animals, see if your child can remember the names of the young animals from two weeks ago? Have you seen any spring flowers in the garden? Talk about their names and colours. Can the children remember painting the daffodils for their Mother’s Day cards?

Here are some activities that you may like to try over the Easter holidays.

Make an Easter egg picture? Cut out some egg shapes from paper and ask your child to decorate it. The patterns we use in Nursery for mark making are zigzag patterns, wave patterns, horizontal lines, vertical lines and circles.

Easter egg hunt – Can you child help you to think of some clues for the Easter egg hunt? Can you write their instructions for the rest of the family?

Decorate an egg – Make a hard-boiled egg and allow it to cool down. Ask your child to decorate it using coloured pens. Use a slide or create a ramp with a large box propped against a chair. Whose egg rolls the furthest?

Counting eggs – Sing the song together. Count the eggs as they hatch. Count carefully counting to each egg as it pops.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/teach/school-radio/nursery-rhymes-hickety-pickety-my-red-hen/zvymd6f – Hickety Pickety my red hen.

Counting ducks – We enjoy singing this song at Nursery. Each time a duck is lost count how many are left. Use each finger to represent a duck.

https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/p038jj3r – 5 little ducks

As always stay safe and have fun. Let’s hope that the sunshine returns!

Home Learning Heroes- Week 2!

Posted on Friday 03 April 2020 by Mrs Allen-Kelly

Take a look at this special video of L’s past two weeks. He has been looking after butterflies. He saw a butterfly emerge from its chrysalis, helped look after them and released them into the wild. I wonder if your child can tell you what happens before a butterfly makes its chrysalis? What is it before it is a butterfly? What is it at the very start?

If you would like to make it onto the ‘Home Learning Heroes’ wall next week, please keep sending in your pictures, questions and comments:

Brain Breaks!

Posted on Thursday 02 April 2020 by Mrs Wood

We have used imoves at school during PE sessions and in the classroom. There are some great resources to use and they are now free to use at home. I particularly like the Active Blasts when I need a break from my laptop! I enjoy getting up on my feet and following the routines. I have also liked using  the Mindfulness resources especially during these uncertain times. These videos relax my body and block any negative thoughts entering my mind. Take a look at their website and try some of the videos at home – I am sure some parents will have a go too!

We hope you are all staying safe and enjoying your home learning tasks.
